Celebrating Family Businesses in Hospitality and Tourism

Special Issue Call for Papers

Guest Editors: Dr Claire Seaman, Richard Bent and Professor Donald Getz

The Journal of Family Business Management aims to provide a wide ranging forum for the inter-disciplinary discussion and information exchange on family business related topics, with the aim of advancing both conceptual development and application of empirical methodologies, leading to an improvement in our understanding of family businesses.

Recognizing the importance of family businesses in hospitality and tourism industries this call for papers invites submissions for a special issue entitled ‘Family Businesses & Business Families in Hospitality & Tourism’, to be guest edited by Dr Claire Seaman & Richard Bent from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh and Professor Donald Getz from Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary.

Theoretical, empirical and practice-based papers are invited for this special issue of the Journal of Family Business Management, which will explore various aspects of the contribution family businesses make to the hospitality and tourism industries. Manuscripts are especially welcome in areas such as:

  • The impact of family businesses on regional economic development
  • Succession planning in family businesses
  • Education, learning, knowledge exchange & knowledge management in family businesses
  • The public sector and its interaction with family business, development, behaviour and success
  • Marketing hospitality organisations as family businesses
  • Family Business start-ups and entrepreneurship in hospitality and tourism
  • Development and business growth within the family environment

  • Family business development in established and new migrant communities
  • The role of education in family business development
  • The interaction of family businesses with business support services
